Dealing with Blackletter typefaces has had negative connotations since the Second World War. Especially in Germany those typefaces are seen as representatives of Nazi culture — even though this does them a great injustice.

Nevertheless, more and more young designers are interested in the asthetic aspects of those typefaces and use representatives from different epochs. In order to better understand the controversy surrounding the Blackletter typefaces it is important to know the origins and history.
